Before becoming one of the most touristic places of the island, Puerto de Pollença was a fishermen’s harbor. Its population mainly lived out of agriculture. This began to change during the first decades of the XXth century when artists such as Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Titto Citadini and Roberto Ramaugé settled in the area. The British author Agatha Christie, for example, often stayed in Pollença and wrote Problem at Pollensa Bay (1939).
In the 1930s, the area’s first hotels were built. The touristic sector continued to develop in the 1960s, like in the rest of the island. Nowadays, Puerto de Pollença is one of the most visited towns of the north of the island and it continues to inspire both national and international artists.
Antes de convertirse en uno de los lugares más turísticos de la isla, el Puerto de Pollença fue un muelle de pescadores y su población vivía mayoritariamente del sector agrícola. Esto empezó a cambiar durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX cuando artistas como Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Tito Cittadini y Roberto Ramaugé se instalaron en la zona. La autora británica Agatha Christie, por ejemplo, se inspiró en sus estancias en Pollença para escribir el relato Problem at Pollensa Bay (1939).
En los años 1930, se construyen los primeros hoteles de la zona y el sector turístico se desarrolla a partir de los años 60. Actualmente, el Puerto de Pollença es uno de los lugares más visitados del norte de la isla y sigue inspirando artistas nacionales e internacionales.

3. The landscape
The Fortaleza, literally ‘the fortress’ is a gigantic mansion in Pollença. It’s the home of Hugh Laurie’s character in the Bristish TV show The Night Manager (2016). The house was initially built as a fortress 350 years ago in order to defend Mallorca from military attacks. In 1919, the painter Roberto Ramaugé bought the Fortaleza and turned it into a luxurious private mansion.
La Fortaleza, una gigante mansión en las alturas de Pollença es la casa del personaje millonario interpretado por Hugh Laurie en la miniserie británica El Infiltrado (2016). Fue inicialmente construida hace 350 años para defender Mallorca de ataques militares. En 1919, el pintor Roberto Ramaugé adquirió la Fortaleza y la convirtió en una mansión privada.
